Arts-based & pARTICIPATORY evaluation methods
Arts-based research and evaluation methods offer transformative benefits, enabling deeper engagement and inclusivity. These approaches provide participants with alternative ways to communicate ideas, express emotions, and share experiences that might be difficult or uncomfortable to articulate verbally. By incorporating diverse forms of expression, such as visual art, photography and participatory video, these methods create more inclusive spaces for reflection, storytelling, and connection, fostering richer and more authentic insights.
I have extensive experience utilizing arts-based methods in my work, including formal training in participatory video through InsightShare and in arts-based research methods at La Ventana Infinita. Additionally, I have applied creative tools such as collage, painting, photography, and body mapping to facilitate inclusive and participatory processes. These methods are particularly effective in engaging marginalized groups and ensuring that all voices are heard in research and evaluation.
